Salem, OR : Oregon police search for vehicle involved in fatal Nyssa crash on Thursday, 22nd September 2016

A white SUV or hatchback car went to pass another vehicle and in the path of Billy Jo Carr Jr., driving south Thursday evening on Highway 20 between Ontario and Nyssa.

Carr swerved his 1992 Toyota pickup toward the right shoulder to avoid a head-on collision but lost control and flipped the truck onto its top at about 7:50 p.m. The incident took place near Milepost 259.

The driver of the SUV did not stop and fled the scene, Oregon State Police reported.

Carr was pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway was closed for three hours. One lane was opened for another two hours until the highway could be cleared.
