DES MOINES, IA : Man killed in serious crash at a parking lot in the 2600 block of Ingersoll Avenue on Sunday, 27th January 2019

A man died and a child was taken to a Des Moines-area hospital early Sunday afternoon after a crash just west of downtown Des Moines, police said.

Des Moines police and fire rescue personnel were sent just after 12:15 p.m. on reports of a serious car crash at a parking lot in the 2600 block of Ingersoll Avenue.Police said it appears that the vehicle was westbound on Grand Avenue when it left the roadway and went over a concrete wall, crashing into the parking lot below.

The male driver of the vehicle, identified as 32-year-old Des Moines resident Grant Stokka, was pronounced dead. A child passenger, identified as Stokka's 8-year-old son, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Investigators said impairment, excessive speed and road conditions were not contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
