Colorado Springs, CO : Police officers injured after serious crash on East Platte Avenue and Prospect Street on Saturday, January 2, 2016

Two Colorado Springs police officers were taken to the hospital shortly before 7 Saturday evening after a serious crash at the intersection of East Platte Avenue and Prospect Street.

Investigators say the officers were driving in the eastbound lanes of Platte when a truck driven by Raymond Maez turned left onto Prospect in front of them.

Maez's truck and the officers' patrol car collided, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

Both officers and Maez were taken to the hospital for evaluation. One of the officers was seriously hurt, but both were later released from the hospital.

The intersection of Platte and Prospect was closed during the investigation, then reopened around 9 p.m.

Investigators believe that either alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the crash.

Felony charges against Maez are expected to be filed.
