Kokomo, IN : Car chase, crash leads to arrest on Monday, 15th August, 2016
A Kokomo man was arrested, and police are pursuing a warrant on another, after a car chase with police led to a crash.
Kobe Beard, 18, Kokomo, allegedly was spinning the tires to the 2001 Chrysler 300M he was driving Monday evening around 6:17 p.m. He had a passenger, Brice Thompson, 18, Kokomo. An officer attempted a traffic stop, according to Kokomo Police Maj. Brian Seldon, but Beard allegedly disregarded the officer and drove off.
The crash report states the chase went for several blocks, as Beard disregarded stop signs and turned to head north onto Union Street. The car was near the Firmin Street intersection, when it struck a legally parked car head-on, resulting in more than $2,500 in damage.
Beard and Thompson allegedly took off on foot, but were found by officers in the 1500 block of South Main Street. Thompson was taken into custody on a misdemeanor charge of resisting law enforcement.
Beard was sent to the hospital with an unspecified medical condition, according to Seldon, which was unrelated to the crash.
Seldon said a warrant will be requested for Beard’s arrest.
