Newton, KS : Several injured in crash in Harvey County on Sunday night, July 31, 2016

Several people were taken to the hospital Sunday night after a three-vehicle crash in Harvey County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at about 10 p.m. at U.S. 50 and Ridge Road, three miles west of Newton.

A 2013 Ford Escape driven by Heather M. Nichols, 43, of Gypsum, was stopped to turn left onto Ridge Road from the highway. A 2009 Dodge Caravan driven by John R. Kraft, 64, of Rose Hill, was stopped behind the Escape. Then, a 2007 Chevy Cobalt driven by Courtney C. Seever, 20, of Burlington, hit the back of the Caravan, pushing it into the Escape.

Nichols and her passengers Larry L. Nichols, 39, Saedee R. Nichols, 36, and Thomas J. Nichols, 39, all of Gypsum, were taken to Newton Medical Center with injuries.

They were treated and released before 3:20 p.m. on Monday.

Seever and Kraft weren’t injured. They were wearing seat belts.

No one in the Nichols vehicle was wearing a seat belt.
