MIDDLEWAY, WV : One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Friday, September 29th 2017
One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on W.Va. 51/Middleway Pike near Middleway, W.Va., this morning, according to police officials from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
A second woman was flown by helicopter to Winchester (Virginia) Medical Center after an assessment in the helicopter. Sgt. Ronald Fletcher, of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, said she was unconscious but breathing.
The female driver of the vehicle was killed when the vehicle she was driving collided with a dump truck. The dump truck was traveling westbound on Middleway Pike one-tenth of a mile west of Shirley Road when its front-left tire blew out, Fletcher said. The dump truck is believed to have crossed the center line. The two woman were traveling eastbound. Both the car and dump truck came to rest on the side of the roadway, and the dump truck rolled over on to the vehicle, Fletcher said.
It is unknown at this time how the truck rolled over on to the vehicle.
The accident was reported at about 10 a.m. this morning. It took crews about 40 minutes to extricate the female passenger.
The driver of the dump truck was uninjured.
A dog riding in the backseat of the vehicle appeared to be uninjured, Fletcher said.
The accident remains under investigation.
