Fredericksburg, VA : Spotsylvania woman killed in crash with fuel truck on Courthouse Road near Brokenburg on Wednesday, May 11, 2016

A Spotsylvania County woman died Wednesday after her car struck a fuel truck on Courthouse Road near Brokenburg, state police said.

Christine Renee Gibbs, 45, was ejected from her car and died at the scene of the accident at about 1:25 p.m., Sgt. Les Tyler said. She was not wearing a seat belt.

The woman was traveling west on Courthouse Road (State Route 208) in a 2002 BMW when she ran off the right side of the road, Tyler said. She overcorrected and struck a Freightliner fuel truck going east on Courthouse, just south of Massey Road in rural Spotsylvania.

The driver of the fuel truck, Perry M. Beale, 62, of Stafford County was transported to Mary Washington Hospital. His injuries did not appear to be life threatening, Tyler said.

Tyler said he did not know what caused Gibbs to run off the road. He did note that the road was wet at the time.
State Police Trooper D.A. Eaves investigated the crash, Tyler said. The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, the county Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management and the Virginia Department of Transportation provided assistance.

A section of Courthouse Road was closed for about three hours because of the accident.
