PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL : A multi-vehicle crash on Wednesday, July 12, 2017

A Lantana man is facing charges that he fled a traffic stop spot on Interstate 95 and caused a multi-vehicle crash that left one person with serious injuries, according to a police report.

Maurice Kent White, 29, allegedly bolted from the crash scene, then got the owner of the vehicle he wrecked to report it stolen.White is facing charges of hit-and-run in a crash involving injuries and driving with a suspended license. He was released from the Palm Beach County Jail on Wednesday after posting a $2,000 bond. The incident took place April 22, but White was not arrested until Monday, records show.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, White was weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed on northbound I-95 when he was spotted by a trooper. White pulled over onto the highway’s shoulder south of Northlake Boulevard but sped off after the trooper approached.

White exited at Northlake and attempted to make a right-hand turn from the left turn lanes against a red light. The result was a three-car crash that left one person with a severely injured back, the report said.

White ran from the crash scene and managed to elude a search by various police agencies.

About three hours after the crash, the vehicle’s owner reported the car as stolen to Lantana police.

After the owner was provided information about the crash, she withdrew her stolen vehicle report. White later confessed, the report said.

Court records show that White was arrested for DUI on Sept. 16 after he allegedly caused a crash in Boynton Beach. White had his license suspended after he failed to pay fines assessed by a judge.
