Southampton, MA : Three people injured after a two-vehicle crash on Route 10 (College Highway) and Valley Road on Friday morning, June 17, 2016
Southampton, Massachusetts
Three people were taken to the hospital and Route 10 was closed Friday morning after a two-vehicle accident.
The crash, which involved a silver van and a gray sedan, occurred at 9:12 a.m. at the intersection of Route 10 (College Highway) and Valley Road. Southampton Police Lt. Ian Illingsworth said he was believed the collision occurred as the van traveled southbound on Route 10 and the sedan entered the intersection traveling eastbound on Valley Road.
All three people involved in the accident – both drivers, as well as a child who was a passenger in the sedan – were taken to hospitals. Illingsworth said two people were taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, and he was not sure where the third was taken. He said one person had “significant injuries.”
A Massachusetts State Police investigator was also on the scene. Illingsworth said state police were brought in for accident reconstruction. The accident is still under investigation.
State Police Friday night said they did not have any information about those involved in the accident except that one driver was described as an “elderly female.”
The wreck left glass scattered across the road. Two large, bent pieces of what appeared to be metal remained on the asphalt. The sedan’s front end appeared to be seriously damaged, as did the passenger side of the van.
Route 10 was closed between Brickyard Road in Southampton and Route 202 in Westfield. About a block of Valley Road also was closed.
