Tallahassee, FL : Two people from Northwest Florida were killed on Monday, December, 11th 2017

Florida Highway Patrol has reported that two people from Northwest Florida were killed in separate crashes.

In the first incident, a Pensacola man on a scooter was hit by a car Monday.

According to a FHP press release, Eric P. Scanlon was killed when the 2011 Jonway YY250T scooter he was operating collided with a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Michael J. Saxton, 32, of Pensacola, at 5:10 p.m.

FHP noted that charges are pending after Saxton made a left turn onto Deborah Drive off State Road 290 in Escambia County, driving directly into the path of the scooter.

Scanlon was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Alcohol was not related to the crash, according to FHP.

In the second incident, a Westville woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash at mile marker 95 on Interstate 10 in Holmes County.

FHP noted that a 2014 Lincoln MKZ driven by Iris Gutshall, 78, of Gulf Breeze, was traveling west on the highway into a setting sun and did not observe a 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by 49-year-old Kimberly Pitts of Westville moving at a slower speed. The crash occurred at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Lincoln struck the rear of the pickup, forcing it off the paved portion of the highway. When the pickup traveled onto the grass shoulder, it began to spin clockwise and then overturned several times. The pickup came to a final rest on all four tires.

Pitts was taken to Healthmark Regional Medical Center in DeFuniak Springs where she was pronounced dead.

FHP noted alcohol was not related to the crash and no charges were listed on the release.
