Santa Fe, NM : Police investigate fatal crash south of Santa Fe on Sunday, 21st August, 2016
New Mexico State Police are investigating the death of a 38-year-old Arizona man killed south of Santa Fe when his car crashed into a tree off the Interstate 25 west frontage road around 10 p.m. Sunday.
William Gerald James, 38, of St. Michaels, Ariz., was traveling southbound on I-25 mile marker 271 when his car went off the road and slammed into the tree, according to a state police news release.
St. Michaels is a community on the Navajo Nation in northeastern Arizona.
State police said alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation Tuesday.
James, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, the statement said.
