Gillette, WY : 31-year-old Gillette man and 3 dogs died in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 Tuesday night, May 5, 2015

A 31-year-old Gillette man died in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 90 about five miles west of Gillette at about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Phillip Tuttle was driving west in a 1995 Ford pickup behind a semitrailer when the semi began to pull over into the emergency lane on the side of the road. Tuttle did not appear to slow and rear-ended the semi at highway speeds, Sheriff Scott Matheny said.
The full investigation is being handled by the Wyoming Highway Patrol, and information from the WHP was not available by press time.

The pickup and part of the semi caught fire in the accident, which caused a total loss to the pickup and about $5,000 damage to the contents of the semi, according to a Campbell County Fire Department press release.

The fire department also helped law enforcement extricate Tuttle from the pickup.
Three dogs that were in the pickup also died.

Deputy Coroner Steve Rozier said Tuttle’s death is still under investigation and
wouldn’t name a cause of death other than injuries sustained in the crash.

Rozier said he doesn’t know if Tuttle was wearing a seat belt.

“There’s no way to tell due to the damage to the truck,” Rozier said.
