A motorcycle rider died early Thursday after crashing in northeast Fort Collins, marking the fourth motorcycle fatality in Larimer County in 11 days.

A Yamaha motorcycle was traveling north at a high rate of speed on Timberline Road at Mountain Vista about 12:20 a.m. when the female driver failed to stop at a stop sign, careened off the north side of the road and smashed into a sign, Fort Collins police said. The Fort Collins Police Services CRASH team responded and closed the northeast Fort Collins intersection for about five hours. An investigation is ongoing, and additional details were not immediately available Thursday morning.

Anyone with information about the crash, who has not already given a statement to police, is asked to call Officer Drew Jurkofsky at 970-416-2224.

The motorcyclist's death Thursday was the 32nd death on Larimer County roadways this year. By this time last year, 29 people had died, according to records maintained by the Coloradoan and the Larimer County Coroner's Office. Twenty-four people died in both 2014 and 2013, 26 died in 2012 and 20 died in 2011.

The crash also marked the second motorcycle fatality in Fort Collins this week. And a week prior, two Fort Collins motorcycle riders were killed Aug. 21 when a sedan veered across a double-yellow line and struck them head-on in the Big Thompson Canyon.
