Larimer County, CO : Motorcycle rider killed in Fort Collins crash on Thursday, September 1, 2016
A motorcycle rider died early Thursday after crashing in northeast Fort Collins, marking the fourth motorcycle fatality in Larimer County in 11 days.
A Yamaha motorcycle was traveling north at a high rate of speed on Timberline Road at Mountain Vista about 12:20 a.m. when the female driver failed to stop at a stop sign, careened off the north side of the road and smashed into a sign, Fort Collins police said. Poudre Valley Hospital EMS treated and transported the woman to Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, where she later died.
The woman's name will be made public after next of kin are notified.
The Fort Collins Police Services CRASH team responded and closed the northeast Fort Collins intersection for about five hours. An investigation is ongoing, and additional details were not immediately available Thursday morning.

The motorcyclist's death Thursday was the 32nd death on Larimer County roadways this year. By this time last year, 29 people had died, according to records maintained by the Coloradoan and the Larimer County Coroner's Office. Twenty-four people died in both 2014 and 2013, 26 died in 2012 and 20 died in 2011.
The crash also marked the second motorcycle fatality in Fort Collins this week. Gavin Riker, 21, of Fort Collins, died after a crash Sunday morning in the Campus West area not far from Colorado State University's main campus. And a week prior, two Fort Collins motorcycle riders were killed Aug. 21 when a sedan veered across a double-yellow line and struck them head-on in the Big Thompson Canyon.
