Bridgewater, Massachusetts
A vehicle crashed into a gas station and convenience store in Bridgewater on Sunday, forcing the business to close due to structural damage.
The incident occurred at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday at the GO gas station at 155 Broad St., where a vehicle slammed into the side of the store, denting the exterior wall and knocking down shelves inside the building as a result of the impact.
Nobody was injured as a result of the crash and no one was transported to the hospital as a result, according to a dispatcher for the Fire Department.
Bridgewater police and firefighters arrived, notifying the town building inspector and wire inspector about the damage to the Spring Street side of the building. The business was closed temporarily as result of the crash, at least until the building could be inspected on Tuesday, the Fire Department said.
Bridgewater police said a man was in his car in a parking space at the gas station, when he thought he placed his vehicle in reverse, but he actually had it in drive. The 47-year-old Bridgewater man who was behind the wheel hit the accelerator and the car went forward, over a curb, and then struck the building, police said.
