BROCKTON, MA : 'Paranoid' driver in serious Brockton crash on West Chestnut Street on Monday, 30th December, 2019

When police and firefighters arrived, they found the car with “massive” front end damage, according to a police statement.

But there was no one in the vehicle or in the immediate area of the crash, which took place on Monday at 10:09 p.m. on West Chestnut Street, police said. Suddenly, a short while later, police said the driver appeared from the woods, acting frantically and later admitting to being high on meth.“After a short while, the driver came running out of the woods claiming people were trying to kill him,” said police, in a summary of the crash.

Police said a responding officer found the driver’s wrecked Honda Civic up against a tree. Firefighters arrived and disconnected the car’s battery to turn it off.

The driver who appeared out of the woods was later identified as Alan Hopkins, 25, of Brockton.

“Alan Hopkins was acting extremely paranoid, and he admitted to investigators he was taking meth Monday night,” police said.

Hopkins was not arrested and was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center to get treated.

However, police said they requested a court complaint against Hopkins for charges of operating under the influence of drugs, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to stay in marked lanes.
