LOWER SALEM, OH : Two West Virginia residents were killed a multiple-vehicle accident on Saturday, August 19, 2017

Two West Virginia residents were killed Saturday during a multiple-vehicle accident on Interstate 77 in northern Washington County in which a Senecaville resident was involved.

Motorcyclist John S. Long, 67, of Union, W.Va., was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident while a passenger, Kristi J. Long, 66, of Union, died at Marietta Memorial Hospital a short time after the accident.

The Longs were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

A motorcycle operated by John S. Long reportedly made contact with a pickup truck and trailer operated by William Paulson, 62, of Senecaville.

A press release issued by the Ohio State HIghway Patrol did not indicate how the contact was made between the motorcycle and truck.The patrol said Long was southbound on I-77 when the accident occurred in Salem Township.

Dr. Brockett of the Washington County Coroner's Office assisted at the scene. Also assisting at the scene were the Ohio Department of Transportation, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Devola and Lower Salem volunteer fire departments and the Washington County Prosecutor's Office.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected as factors in the crash.

No additional information was available from the highway patrol prior to press time Monday. The accident remained under investigation by the patrol's Marietta post.
