HOLLAND TWP, MI : A Spring Lake man suffered serious injuries in a three-vehicle crash on Thursday, December, 7th 2017
A Spring Lake man suffered serious injuries in a three-vehicle crash north of Holland late Thursday morning, police said.Gregory Wood, 59, was driving south on U.S. 31, north of Quincy Street in Holland Township at 10:53 a.m., when he lost control of his 2006 Toyota on the snowy roadway, said Sgt. David VanderPloeg of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. The Spring Lake man’s vehicle skidded through the highway median and collided with a 2012 GMC van that had stopped in the median crossover from northbound to southbound U.S. 31.
The Toyota continued into the northbound lanes and collided with a third vehicle, a 2017 Jeep.
As a result of the crash, Wood was pinned inside his smashed car and had to be extricated from it by Holland Township firefighters. He was then taken by AMR ambulance to Holland Hospital in serious condition, VanderPloeg said.
The driver of the Jeep, 67-year-old Charlie Johnson of Racine, Wisconsin, and a passenger, 66-year-old Eloise Johnson, were also transported to Holland Hospital after the crash. VanderPloeg said both Johnsons suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the van, 40-year-old Steven Frieswyk of Allendale, was not injured.
A dog in Wood’s car died of injuries at the scene of the crash.
