LAKELAND, FL : Lakeland motorcyclist dies in collision with pickup on Monday, 22nd August, 2016
A Lakeland man died after his motorcycle collided with a pickup about 7 a.m. Monday on Walt Williams Road, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Ricardo Earl Coterillo, 53, died at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center from injuries sustained in the crash.
According to the FHP, Eric Lee Burch, 43, of Lakeland was driving a 2014 Ford F-150 pickup south on Walt Williams Road. When he began turning into the parking lot of a Circle K, he drove into the path of Coterillo, who was riding a 2014 Harley-Davidson FXDB north on Walt Williams Road.
FHP reported that Coterillo braked and began to skid in an effort to avoid a collision but the left side of his motorcycle collided with the left side of the truck, throwing Coterillo from the bike which came to rest on the east side of the road. The truck came to rest in the entrance to the parking lot, facing east.
Coterillo was wearing a helmet. Burch, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries.
The FHP said alcohol was not a factor. The accident is under investigation and charges are pending.
