Hazleton, PA : Man died and four others injured in single vehicle crash on Sunday, June 18, 2017
A 50-year-old Brooklyn, New York, man died and four others injured in single vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township late Sunday night, state police said.
Troopers did not release the name of the man, who was thrown from the sport utility vehicle and found unresponsive. He was a passenger in the vehicle headed eastbound between Blakeslee and Lake Harmony just before midnight.
The driver, Jose Padila, 34, of Brooklyn, suffered moderate injuries. Passengers, Robenson Murat, 35, and Natividad Jimenz, 30, both of Brooklyn, also suffered moderate injuries. Another passenger, Mildred Ruiz, 44, also of Brooklyn, suffered major injuries, police said.
They were all taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township for treatment.
The crash happened when Padila lost control of the SUV, which traveled onto the right shoulder and overturned multiple times coming to a rest on the shoulder, police said.
Troopers were assisted on the scene by Lake Harmony Fire and EMS, J&J Towing and state police at Hazleton.
The investigation is ongoing, troopers said.
