Titusville, FL : 3-year-old boy injured in hit-and-run crash on Elizabeth Avenue, Sunday, Sep 20, 2015

A 3-year-old boy is recovering after he was injured in a hit-and-run in Titusville, authorities said.

The incident happened Sunday on Elizabeth Avenue when the child ran out into the street to get his ball, neighbors said.

The child's aunt, Gina Merkerson, said the driver got out to see if the boy was hurt, but drove off when family members called 911.

"You just never know what could come out of a driveway; a car could back out, kids could run out.
You just never know, and there's a lot of kids on this street," said Merkerson.

The family said the boy has minor injuries and is expected to be OK.

The family got the license plate number and investigators said the vehicle was found in Mims, but no one was arrested.
