Aiken, SC : A North Augusta man was killed on Sunday, June 25, 2017
A North Augusta man was killed and an Aiken County state trooper was injured in two fatal collisions on I-20 early Saturday, according the Lexington County Coroner's Office.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said in a news release two people were killed in the early morning car accidents on I-20 eastbound at mile marker 39 in Lexington County.
Caleb Joseph Metz, 26, of North Augusta, died at the scene from the injuries he received in an accident that occurred at approximately 4 a.m., according to the news release.
Metz was headed westbound on I-20, crossed over into the eastbound lanes, and was struck by another vehicle traveling eastbound, the release said.
Fisher said the driver and two passengers in the other vehicle involved in the accident were all transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Metz was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, the coroner said.
In another accident, at nearly the same location, the coroner said a Columbia man also died at the scene of an accident. The coroner's office identified the victim as 25-year-old Keith D. Kennedy.
