Orting, WA : Two people injured in head-on collision at 144th Street East and Highway 162 in Orting on Friday morning, February 19, 2016
Two people were injured in a head-on crash Friday morning near Orting, fire officials said. One victim's injuries are considered life-threatening.
State troopers and medics responded to the scene, at 144th Street East and Highway 162, at about 7:45 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious accident.
A black 2011 Dodge Nitro and a white 1995 Subaru Legacy were found crashed at the scene.
The driver of the Subaru, a 51-year-old Sumner man, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Dodge Nitro, a 38-year-old Orting woman, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with less serious injuries.
A preliminary investigation found that the Dodge Nitro was headed east on Highway 162 as the Subaru was headed west. The two vehicles collided head-on in the westbound lanes.
It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
Highway 162 was closed for about 2 1/2 hours after the crash for the cleanup and investigation.
