Potlatch, WA : Woman dead after car plunges into Wash.'s Hood Canal near Potlatch on Tuesday, March 17, 2015
Law enforcement officers say a woman who was trapped inside a car that wound up in Hood Canal near Potlatch, Washington, has died.
The car apparently veered off U.S. Highway 101 and plunged into the canal Tuesday near Potlatch State Park.
Two Skokomish tribal police officers tried to reach the woman but the car was too far underwater. Divers finally pulled her to the surface. The car was also pulled from the canal.
Washington State Patrol Sgt. Scott Gordon says one witness reported the car did not appear to brake, just left the road and ended up in the water.
Firefighters, deputies, state troopers and others all tried to help her.
