Pittsburgh,PA : State police trooper injured in crash during chase in Butler County on March, Friday 30th 2018
A Pennsylvania State Police trooper was injured Friday in a head-on crash during a vehicle pursuit in Butler County.
The trooper's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.
Butler City Police attempted to stop 50-year-old David R. Coleman for a traffic violation about 4:40 p.m. at the intersection of Hansen Avenue and Renaissance Drive.
Mr. Coleman did not pull over, according to police, and continued to travel at slower to moderate speeds. Police said Mr. Coleman had a 13-year-old relative in his vehicle during the chase.
Butler City police followed Mr. Coleman, and Butler Township and state police were called in to assist in the pursuit.
Mr. Coleman made a left turn from South Duffy Road onto Whitestown Road and struck a marked state police vehicle head-on, injuring the trooper inside, police said.
The trooper was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Mr. Coleman was taken to the hospital to have his blood drawn because police believe he was driving under the influence. The 13-year-old boy in his vehicle was not injured.
Police said they charged Mr. Coleman with fleeing and eluding, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and DUI as well as numerous traffic violations.
He was placed in the Butler County Jail.
