PLAINFIELD TW, PA : Motorcyclist killed in crash with dump truck on Wednesday, 31st August, 2016
The motorcyclist killed in the wreck has been identified as 22-year-old Anthony Policelli of Cara Ct. in Bangor, PA. Northampton Coroner Zachary Lysek cites multiple blunt force injuries as the cause of death and rules it accidental. One person was killed when a motorcycle and a dump truck collided in Northampton County. The accident happened around 10 a.m. in the 1600 block of Pen Argyl Road in Plainfield Township, just a short distance from Daniel Leiber's home and farm. Leiber said moments before the wreck, he heard and saw a motorcycle flying down his road. "Just going so fast," Leiber said. "I didn't clock him, but I would guess 100 miles-plus per hour." Leiber said he thought to himself, "He's gonna kill himself." Moments later, Leiber said he heard an "explosion," the sound of the bike hitting a dump truck. "I called 911 before grabbing fire extinguisher," Leiber said. "The flames were growing pretty rapidly." In his gut, Leiber said he knew something terrible had happened. "You could pretty much tell it was going to be a fatal accident," Leiber said. Officials haven't yet released the name of the person killed. They are waiting to notify family members before making the information public. Leiber said he never saw the motorcyclist. "His shoe was lying in the middle of the road, the visor to his helmet in the middle of the road," Leiber said. The driver of the truck was uninjured, but visibly rattled. "He was shaken up real bad," Leiber said. The mangled bike was later carted off on the back of a tow truck; the Scheuermann truck was partially damaged, too, and pulled away by a tow truck. "The tire of the truck was all bent in," Leiber said. According to several officials, Scheuermann is one of several contractors doing work for PennDOT down the street from the crash site. Officials have not said what caused the wreck, but they told 69 News the investigation is ongoing and in the early stages. Leiber and other neighbors said they wouldn't be surprised if speed was a factor. They said they see cars going faster than the posted 45 mph speed limit every day. "I see it all the time," Leiber said, adding that a car flipped over outside of his house just two weeks ago. "Everybody flies by. They have no regard for the speed limit," said Lori Black, a neighbor.
