Janesville, WI : Victim of Sunday's fatal accident on Interstate 90/39 identified on Wednesday, 17th August, 2016
The man who died in a traffic crash on Interstate 90/39 on Sunday was Joshua A. Rowell, 31, of Rockford, Illinois, the Rock County Medical Examiner's Department announced Wednesday.
The two-minivan crash in the town of Fulton was reported to authorities around 11:45 p.m. Sunday. Eight other people were injured in the crash. The Wisconsin State Patrol has not released their names.
Rowell was a passenger in a southbound vehicle near Mile Marker 165 when the crash occurred.
Rowell was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary autopsy results indicated he died from injuries sustained in the crash. Additional testing is underway, according to the news release.
The State Patrol and Dane County Medical Examiner's Office continue to investigate, the release states.
An earlier State Patrol news release said the crash occurred when a 19-year-old driver lost control of a southbound Chevrolet Venture, which crossed the median and hit a guard wire.
The minivan stopped in the right lane with no lights on, the release stated, and a southbound Dodge Sprinter traveling at near highway speed crashed into the Chevrolet, according to the release.
Rowell was in the Chevrolet minivan.
The 19-year-old driver and a 32-year-old woman in the Chevrolet suffered life-threatening injuries, according to the release.
The driver and sole occupant of the Dodge van was treated at the scene and released, according to the news release.
The crash shut down both lanes for nearly four hours.
