Longmont, CO : Fiery 2-vehicle crash kills one, closes Colo. 52 in Niwot on Monday, March 13th 2017
A two-vehicle, head-on crash and car fire at Colo. 52 and Monarch Park Place in Niwot left one dead and another in critical condition on Monday night.
The collision occurred after one of the vehicles "traveling in the opposite direction slowly veered into the other lane," a Colorado State Patrol official said.
One of the drivers was transported to an area hospital in "extremely critical" condition and was later pronounced dead, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The second driver remained in critical condition as of Monday night.
CSP said both drivers were taken to Boulder Community Health's Foothills Hospital.
It is unclear which of the drivers was pronounced dead.
Colo. 52 was closed between Diagonal Highway and North 79th Street for several hours while the state patrol investigated, according to sheriff's officials.
CDOT reported around 8 p.m. that the road had been reopened.
