Erie, PA : Three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Erie Parkway and Weld County Road 7 on Tuesday, 7th January, 2020
A three-vehicle crash that seriously injured a 37-year-old man and closed down Erie roads for several hours remains under police investigation.
The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Erie Parkway and Weld County Road 7. A trash truck from All Recycling North, which overturned, was among the three vehicles involved. The seriously injured man had to be rescued by authorities when he became pinned in a vehicle. The man remained in the hospital on Wednesday, according to Erie police Sgt. Cristi Gordanier . The other vehicles each had single occupants.
A portion of the roads closed down for nearly six hours as Erie police worked to clear scene. In the process of overturning, the trash truck spewed garbage and debris onto the road. Amber Luttrell , spokesperson for the Erie Police Department, said Waste Connections, a trash service company, sent a front-end loader to help with the clean up, which she described as a tremendous help.
In response to the accident, some residents questioned the safety of the intersection and progress on proposed improvements, one of which includes the installation of a traffic signal. When an update on the roads re-opening was posted to the department’s Facebook page, several expressed concern about the high-traffic roads, saying they had witnessed accidents there before.
