Oxford, AL : One person injured after a Car, motorcycle crash in Oxford on Monday afternoon, June 13, 2016

One person was airlifted to a hospital Monday afternoon after a motorcycle and a four-door Kia collided at the intersection of Leon Smith Parkway and Jimmy Hinton Drive, police said.

Police received a call about the accident around 12:10 p.m., Oxford police Capt. L.G. Owens said by phone Monday. Owens said he was unsure how the wreck occurred between the 2005 Kia Optima and the 1997 Harley Davidson driven by an Oxford man.

“I don’t have many details,” he said. “The accident investigators have not submitted their reports for the accident. This is just what they told me on the phone.”

Owens said the driver of the Harley was flown to Birmingham UAB hospital and he was responsive when the helicopter took off.

“I don’t know the extent of his injuries,” Owens said.

The white Kia’s front bumper was ripped from the vehicle. The hood of the car was ripped and mangled like a crumpled piece of paper. An orange-and-black Harley Davidson motorcycle rested on its left side. The black leather seat was ripped from the frame, a helmet sat upside down and a single red-and- black tennis shoe remained.

Oxford police directed southbound traffic on Leon Smith Parkway to the farthest right lane. Investigators with the traffic homicide unit marked the positions of the Kia’s tires with orange spray paint and circled evidence around 1:15 p.m.

A tow truck operator sprinkled a powder to dry up fluids that leaked from the vehicles before chaining them up. A chain was attached to the frame of the motorcycle and its twisted metal scraped and screeched against the flatbed of the tow truck as it was slowly pulled onto it.
