Two people were injured Sunday evening in a collision between a bus and a car in which both vehicles caught fire on Route 301 north, Maryland State Police said.
One person was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and the other was treated at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Chestertown, according to police.
A Ford bus with seven passengers aboard driven by George Scott Shephard of Blossvale, N.Y., was slowing to stop at the railroad tracks that cross Route 301 north of the state police barracks about 6 p.m., according to police. A passenger from the bus, whose name was not available, was taken to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Chestertown for treatment of minor injuries, police said.
Scott was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and was in fair condition Monday afternoon, according to Shock Trauma spokesman Karen Warmkessel.
The highway where the accident occurred was closed for four hours, police said.
The State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland Department of the Environment, and State Highway Administration also assisted, police said.
