NORTH PORT, FL : Students hurt in North Port school bus crash on Wednesday, November, 15th 2017
Several students were among the injured when a school bus and car crashed Wednesday morning, the North Port Police Department reports.
According to police, a Toyota Camry driven by Monica I. Santiago-Rodriguez, 23, of Arcadia east on Cranberry Boulevard attempted to turn left onto Toledo Blade Boulevard at about 6:40 a.m. and turned in front of a Sarasota County school bus driven by Elaine T. Oldja, 45. The bus was carrying 20 students to North Port High School and headed west on Plantation Boulevard/Cranberry Boulevard. The Toyota and bus collided.
Seven people were injured: five students, Santiago-Rodriguez and Oldja. None of the injuries are considered serious at this time, police say.
The injured were all taken to the hospital and the school district has notified their parents. The rest of the students were taken to school.
The crash temporarily blocked southbound lanes of Toledo Blade Boulevard.
Santiago-Rodriguez was cited with failing to yield the right of way.
