Lincoln, NE : Traffic backed up on I-80 after semi fire near Lincoln on Saturday, July 1, 2017

On the first day of a busy holiday travel weekend, traffic on westbound Interstate 80 was backed up for miles Saturday in the Lincoln area and also between Lincoln and Omaha.

The reason? A semi trailer caught fire near exit 392 on westbound I-80 about 10 a.m. Saturday, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

The fire closed all of the Interstate westbound lanes for more than an hour.

The second slowdown – a standstill in some cases – was a result of a collision of two semis near Waverly.

The Nebraska State Patrol encouraged drivers to divert north to Highway 34 at exit 395 or south to Highway 6 at exit 397.
