Tampa, FL : Kindergarten and daycare center is closed after a suspected drunk driver crashed through the wall into a classroom on Friday August 29th 2014
A Tampa kindergarten and daycare center is set to reopen four days after a suspected drunk driver crashed through the wall into a classroom.
The Achievement Center for Early Learning had to close its door Friday, which left dozens of parents scrambling for child care. It's set to reopen Tuesday at 6:30 a.m.
Tampa Police say Haley Burgess, 20, was driving down Busch Blvd. when she lost control of her car and veered off the road right into the Achievement Center. The crash happened Friday at 3:39 a.m. No one was in the building at the time.
The crash left a gaping hole in the front brick wall and destroyed the pre-Kindergarten classroom. The owner of the Achievement Center says 15-20 4 and 5-year-olds sit in that classroom during the day.
The Achievement Center's wall and pre-K classroom will be blocked off until all repairs are made.
Investigators suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash. Charges against the driver are pending the results of toxicology reports.
