North Platte, NE : Driver injured in SUV vs. semi crash on U.S. Highway 83 interchange in North Platte on Tuesday afternoon, July 19, 2016
The driver of a Jeep Patriot was injured Tuesday after he turned in front of a semitrailer truck at the Interstate 80-Highway 83 interchange just south of North Platte.
About 2:30 p.m., the southbound Jeep attempted to turn left from U.S. 83 onto the eastbound I-80 ramp. The driver apparently did not see the northbound semi, and the vehicles collided. The collision spun the Jeep around, said Sgt. Jeff Foote of the North Platte Police Department.
Foote said it appeared the semi driver was not injured. Both vehicles were left undrivable and were towed away.
The semi driver had the right of way, Foote said. He did not believe excessive speed was a factor.
“The speed limit is 40 mph out here and there is no indication the semi was driving over the speed limit,” he said.
