Loveland,CO : Motorcyclist critical after Berthoud crash on March, Sunday 18th 2018
A 33-year-old from Fort Collins was in critical condition after a motorcycle crash in Berthoud that closed a two-mile stretch Colorado 56 for more than four hours Sunday, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The man was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries and was listed in critical condition, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office. His name has not been released.
Sheriff's deputies were notified of a crash in the 600 block of East Colorado 56 near Berthoud about 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. They responded alongside Berthoud firefighters and emergency medics from Thompson Valley Emergency Medical Services.
Investigators determined that the Fort Collins man was driving a 2010 Honda motorcycle east on the highway when a 2009 Dodge minivan turned left into a driveway from the westbound lanes, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office. The motorcycle hit the right rear quarter panel of the van, which was driven by a Fort Collins woman, the release states.
The driver of the van, whose name also has not been released, was not injured, authorities said.
A citizen and an off-duty Larimer County deputy were the first to arrive on scene and helped the motorcycle rider until emergency medics arrived and took over care.
Crash investigation specialists responded to look into the accident and closed a two-mile stretch of the highway for nearly four and a half hours before it reopened about 5 p.m. Sunday. Though the investigation continues, the Sheriff's Office does not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor, according to the news release.
Additional information is not being released as the Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the crash.
However, the Sheriff's Office would like to speak with any possible witnesses who have not already given a statement. Deputy Billy Gentry can be reached at 498-5558.
