JACKSONVILLE, FL : 1 dead, 4 hospitalized after I-295 crash on Sunday, 28th February 2021

One person is dead and four others were hospitalized after a single-vehicle accident Sunday morning, troopers said.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a Kia Sportage was driving south on Interstate 295 just before Lem Turner around 4:15 a.m. when it went off the road, hitting several trees.

Troopers said the 22-year-old driver died and the four passengers -- three 19-year-olds and one 20-year-old -- were taken to UF Health with serious injuries.

According to the FHP report, it’s unknown whether they were wearing seat belts.

Troopers said the crash remains under investigation.
