Richmond MI : Tractor-trailer transporting potatoes crashes in interstate 295 Tuesday night 10.15pm May 27th 2014.
Maine State Police say a tractor-trailer filled with potatoes crashed on Interstate 295 in Richmond late Tuesday night.
Police said the driver told them he swerved to avoid a moose in the southbound lane at about 10:15 p.m.
The truck went into the median, traveled several hundred feet and hit an embankment before coming to a rest.
The impact of the crash broke the box portion of the truck in half, spilling the potatoes on the side of the highway.
Crews were still cleaning up the crash scene Wednesday morning.
Police said the driver was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick with minor leg injuries.
The potatoes were headed from northern Maine to Connecticut, according to authorities.
