A Greenwood man is dead after an SUV he was a passenger in flipped Sunday in Edgefield County, according to officials.
Jerry Jerome Childs, 48, of Greenwood died in the wreck, said Edgefield County Deputy Coroner David Burnett.
At about 2 a.m. Sunday, a man was driving a 2001 Lincoln SUV along U.S. Highway 378, said Lance Cpl. Justin Sutherland with the state Highway Patrol. Near Pleasant Lane Road, about 10 miles north of Edgefield, the driver ran off the left side of the road, hit a utility pole and flipped the SUV, Sutherland said.
The driver and one passenger were not injured, but Childs — who was not wearing a seat belt — died at the scene of the wreck, Sutherland said.
