Opelousas ,LA : 55 -year-old man died and 10 other people injured after car changes lanes into path of pickup towing 2nd car On Friday night ,March 27th 2015
Aa 55-year-old man died and 10 other people were injured when a Mercury Tracer changed lanes into the path of a pickup truck that was towing a Buick on U.S. 190 at Opelousas, Louisiana State Police said.
Harold Richard of Opelousas, a passenger in the Tracer driven by 47-year-old Catherine Arclese, died in the wreck Friday night, said Master Trooper Brooks David.
He said the crash injured Arclese; pickup driver Brandell Pryor of Opelousas, 18; Porche Rubin of Opelousas, at the wheel of the towed 1997 Buick Park Avenue, five passengers in the pickup and two in the Buick.
Pryor declined treatment but the others all were taken to hospitals, David said.
He said investigators found that Arclese was trying to cross both lanes of U.S. 190 to get to an Interstate 40 on-ramp when she crossed the path of Pryor's 2003 Chevrolet Silverado.
Both Arclese's car and the truck ran off the road, David said. The strap towing Buick broke, but the car stayed on the road.
David says Arclese was ticketed with failure to yield and Pryor with two counts of violating child restraint laws.
The case is still being investigated and further charges are possible, he said.
He said troopers found that Pryor was not impaired but took toxicology samples from both Arclese and Rubin.
