A teenage girl was killed in a three-vehicle crash near Franklinton on Saturday (Aug. 6), according to Louisiana State Police.
Dericka Wallace, 14, was in the backseat of a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 25-year-old Earnisha Lott, 25. Around 11 a.m., Lott was driving eastbound on LA 10 when she attempted to pass a 2006 Jeep Liberty in a no-passing zone on a hillcrest, police said. As Lott entered the westbound lane, she crashed into a 2000 GMC Yukon.
Wallace, from Folsom, was not wearing her seat belt and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Washington Parish Coroner's Office. Two other children in Lott's car were wearing their seat belts and were uninjured, police said. The drivers and passengers in the other vehicles sustained minor injuries.
Lott, who passed a breathalyzer test, was arrested and booked into Washington Parish Jail on charges of negligent homicide, passing in a no passing zone, and driving with a suspended license.
She was also booked on an outstanding warrant from the Kenner Police Department for theft under $500.
