Lorain,OH : a two-vehicle crash that took the life of a 5-year-old Lorain County boy on April, friday 21th 2017

Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a two-vehicle crash that took the life of a 5-year-old Lorain County boy Friday afternoon.

Investigators say that the boy, Jaxon Artidiello, was taken by LifeCare EMS to Mercy Health Hospital in Lorain, then flown to MetroHealth Hospital in Cleveland where he died from his injuries. Jaxon was in a booster seat at the time of the crash.

The crash happened just before 2 pm, at the intersection of West Erie Avenue and Kolbe Road in Lorain. Troopers say Jaxon was in a car driven by 51-year-old Denise Artidiello. Artidiello slowed to stop for the red light at Kolbe Road, but the driver of the Freightliner semi failed to stop and struck her car from behind.

Artidiello was wearing a seat belt, and suffered minor injuries. She was treated at Mercy Health Hospital and released.

Peggy and Louie Artidiello said their son "was a ray of light and a ball of energy."

"If you met him, you left with a smile on your face. You would never forget that baby," Peggy Artidiello said.

A GoFundMe account has been setup to help the family with funeral expenses.

Jaxon's uncle, Sam Traughber, said peoples thoughts and well wishes are helping the family. He said Jaxon was set to start kindergarten next school year.

"He had more energy than Niagara Falls," Traughber said. "He was absolutely full of life. Everything that he would tell you was with the strongest conviction regardless of what it was. He loved everything and everybody that he encountered and it was reciprocated. Everybody loved him."

Traughber said it's important for everyone to "hug their babies".

The driver of the semi, 52-year-old James Bartoul, of Media, was not injured.

Alcohol or drug use is not suspected as a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation. Troopers say any charges that would be considered are pending as they investigate the crash.
