Roanoke, VA : 40-year-old Fort Wayne man dead after a car crash Huntington County on Tuesday February 16 2016
A 40-year-old Fort Wayne man is dead after a car he drove crashed into a tree just inside the Huntington County line near Roanoke on Tuesday, according to Indiana State Police.
Investigators were called to an area along County Road 900 North near Gundy Road just east of Roanoke at about 12:50 p.m. There, they found that a 1999 Buick Century driven by Brock Edward Bilyew had crashed head-on into a tree by the side of the road, police said.
Bilyew, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Huntington County Coroner listed his death as due to blunt force trauma, police said.
It’s unclear what exactly happened prior to Bilyew going off the road.
Witnesses told police the car was moving westbound on County Road 900 North when it suddenly went off the south side of the roadway. One witness told investigators the car “just drifted” over the center line, continued off the road and into the tree, police said.
A police spokesman said nothing at the crash site suggested alcohol played a part in what happened but that toxicology tests would be done.
