Victoria police say a 9-year-old girl has been killed after the SUV she was in was hit by a suspected drunken driver.
Sgt. Herschel Buck tells the Victoria Advocate Sophia Calhoun died Sunday. The 41-year-old male driver has been arrested and faces charges of DUI, murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The driver of the SUV, 38-year-old Yvonne Calhoun, was hospitalized with a collapsed lung and a broken shoulder. A hospital spokeswoman described her condition as stable. Her relationship to the girl is unclear.
The man tells authorities he consumed three beers before driving and said he wasn't aware of the wreck.
He is being held without bond at the Victoria County Jail.
