Chicago, IL : Motorcyclist killed in crash in Brainerd on Sunday night, August 14, 2016
A 26-year-old man driving a motorcycle was killed in a crash Sunday night in the Brainerd neighborhood on the South Side.
At 9:42 p.m., the motorcycle was traveling west in the 1200 block of West 95th Street when a vehicle headed east made a left turn and the bike struck the turning vehicle, according to Chicago Police.
Witnesses told investigators the motorcycle was speeding, and the man may have been looking at his cell phone at the time of the crash, police said.
The motorcyclist, Britton A. Hopps, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 10:24 p.m., the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He lived in the 1600 block of West 92nd Place.
The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, police said. She was cited for operating an uninsured vehicle and driving with a suspended driver’s license.
The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
