Scranton, PA : Scranton motorcyclist critical after Taylor crash on Monday, June 19, 2017
A 39-year-old motorcyclist from Scranton was in critical condition Monday at a city hospital after he collided with a pickup the previous day in Taylor.
Jack Tully was not wearing protective clothing or a helmet when his motorcycle, a cafe racer-style Harley Davidson, collided with the pickup owned by Donald Klems, 72, of Old Forge, at 6 p.m. by the North Main Street service entrance to Walmart, police said. How the crash happened remains an open investigation.
“No skid marks were found on the accident scene from the motorcycle,” Police Chief Stephen Derenick said.
Tully suffered what appeared to be severe injuries and was rushed to the trauma center at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Derenick said.
Police are looking for more witnesses and video from nearby surveillance cameras to help determine what caused the crash.
“We’re looking to do some more statements and move on with the investigation,” Derenick said.
One witness at the scene, Jamie Albert of Scranton, told a Times-Tribune reporter that she saw Tully’s motorcycle speed past her while she traveled north to Scranton. The motorcycle went into part of the road not marked for traffic and then collided with the truck’s driver’s door. Albert pulled off to the side of the road and dialed 911, she said.
Anyone who witnessed the crash were asked to call the borough police department at 570-562-2210.
