Three people injured after crash at Ninth, Plum

Three people were sent to the hospital Thursday morning after being involved in a rear-end crash at Ninth and Plum.

Kimberly A. Byard, 49, Hutchinson, was driving a white van south on Plum when she came to a stop waiting on oncoming traffic. Before she was able to turn east on Ninth Avenue, a gold van, operated by Kathryn L. Smith, 68, Hutchinson, rear-ended her vehicle, Hutchinson Police Department Sgt. Garret Leslie said.

Smith, Byard, and Byard’s passenger, Christopher A. Byard, 31, Hutchinson, were transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center with injuries after 9:31 a.m

Smith was in fair condition Thursday afternoon.

Kimberly and Christopher were later discharged from the hospital.

Driver to hospital after Pratt County collision

An Oklahoma woman was taken to Pratt Regional Medical Center after the car she was driving overturned in a collision with a semi-truck, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash log.

Mary L. Morrissey, 53, of Grove, Oklahoma, was driving westbound on U.S. 54 at 1:22 p.m. Thursday, following a semi-truck driven by Joseph R. Vinduska, 32, of Great Bend.

Vinduska slowed to make a left turn onto Southwest 80th, and as he made the turn, Morrissey attempted to pass on the left. The semi-truck struck the right side of Morrissey’s vehicle, which rolled onto its top.

Morrissey was taken to Pratt Regional Medical Center with possible injuries. Vinduska was uninjured.

Open house for new fire station set for Oct. 29

The Hutchinson Fire Department will have an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 29 at its newest fire station, at the intersection of Avenue E and Walnut Street.

Deputy Fire Chief Doug Hanen said in an announcement that there will be a brief presentation at 2 p.m. Afterward the public will have an opportunity to tour the station and see some of the department’s newer apparatuses.
