Radium Springs, NM : Man died after two-vehicle Market Road 1788 Midland on Thursday May 12, 2016.
Radium Springs, New Mexico
A Radium Springs, N.M., man died May 12 at Midland Memorial Hospital from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 5:10 a.m. May 5 on Farm to Market Road 1788 13 miles west of Midland.
Bobby J. Chavez Jr., 23, was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m. May 12 by Dr. Russell Van Husen at Midland Memorial Hospital, a Texas Department of Public Safety news release said on Sunday.
The release said a 2007 Saab 93 driven by Chavez was traveling southbound on FM 1788 when the accident happened. Radium Springs is in the Las Cruces, N.M., area.
A 2005 Kenworth truck tractor towing a 2006 Dragon semi-trailer entered FM 1788 from a private drive, turning northbound, when the truck tractor became disabled, blocking both lanes of travel, and the Saab collided with the towed unit of the Kenworth, the release said.
DPS Trooper Justin Baker said in a Sunday email that he had no information about the Kenworth driver.
The DPS release said weather conditions were clear and the road was dry when the collision took place. The accident was investigated by Trooper Cody Sagnibene of Midland, assisted by the Midland County Sheriff’s Office.
