Gastonia, NC : Hickory man killed and Georgia man injured in a head-on crash in Gaston County on Thursday night, June 2, 2016
A Hickory man was killed in an accident in Gastonia Thursday night (June 2). The Gastonia Police Department is investigating the wreck, which occurred just after 7:30 p.m. Thursday on the 2500 Block of North Chester Street.
According to published reports out of Gastonia, 43-year-old Joseph Robert Bazzle of Hickory was driving a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage south on North Chester Street when he crossed the center line and crashed head on into a 2015 Hyundai Sonata driven by 54-year-old Kevin Walters of Atlanta.
The reports say Bazzle died on the scene from his injuries. Emergency crews took Walters to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, however they are not believed to be life-threatening according to Gastonia Police.
Police are reportedly investigating whether any medical condition or impairing substance contributed to the crash. The wreck blocked all lanes of northbound traffic for about 30 minutes before police were able to re-open one lane of traffic.
