Independence, OR : Patriot Guard Rider Seriously Hurt In Hwy 51 Crash In Oregon on Sunday, August 10, 2014

A motorcyclist was badly hurt when a pickup turned into his path on Highway 51 Sunday, Oregon State Police said. Troopers said Richard Romano, 50 of Independence is a member of the Patriot Guard Riders, a group of volunteer motorcyclists who regularly attend memorial services for fallen veterans and first responders. Troopers said Romano was riding north on Highway 51 when a Dodge pickup pulled out into his path at the intersection with Halls Ferry Road, north of Independence. Romano hit the driver's side of the truck and was thrown from his motorcycle. Romano was taken to the hospital with injuries that OSP described as "serious." He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Neither the pickup's driver nor passenger were hurt. The truck's driver was given a ticket for failing to yield.
