Franklinton man dies in head-on collision, possible

Police believe alcohol played a role in a two-vehicle car crash that killed a Franklinton man this morning in Washington Parish.
Charles Toon of Foxworth, Ms. was driving down La. 25 with passenger Teresa Minarik of Franklinton when police say he crossed the enter line due to impairment.
As Toon crossed into the opposite lane, he struck a car driven by Jonathan Bickham head-on. Bickham was wearing his seatbelt, but died due to injuries caused by the accident. Toon and Minarik were both transported to St. Tammany Parish Hospital with moderate injuries.
Police suspect Toon was drinking before the accident. A blood sample was collected and the results of a toxicology test are pending.
Toon was initially charged with Driving Left of Center, DWI, Vehicular Negligent Injuring and Vehicular Homicide.
Toon will be booked into the Washington Parish Jail upon being released from the hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
